The European project EXCELLERAT enters its second phase

The European Centre of Excellence for Engineering Applications (EXCELLERAT) is a European conglomerate of business partners and high-performance computing centres. Its purpose is to improve Europe’s competitiveness in the High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment.

The second phase of the project started with a 2-day kick-off workshop on 18 and 19 January at HLRS, the High-Performance Computing Centre Stuttgart. Together with participants from Spain, Italy, Sweden, Slovenia, France and Germany, the ongoing and future cooperation was reinforced. The EXCELLERAT project has a duration of four years and is funded by the EU as well as the German government.

Both days were dedicated to the exchange of views and ideas. Seven work packages were presented, their contents discussed, and common goals agreed on. There was also room for personal exchange and getting to know each other.

The main goal of project phase II is to pick up on the successes of EXCELLERAT I and to further promote Europe in the field of EXASCALE computing.

SSC will continue to represent small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), providing an interface to the HPC centres and thus facilitating the use of HPC for industry. Thanks to the utilisation of HPC, highly complex simulations and calculations can be carried out – the basis for development of products and solutions and thus essential for any innovation process.

As one of the 15 European partners, we will continue leading the topic Data Management within the EXCELERAT project, contributing our outstanding expertise in this field.
