Highlights

More than standard

As an IT enabler, we develop customised concepts for successful collaboration within and between companies. In addition to our core business, it is important to us to broaden our own horizons and enter into partnerships with players from other areas of society, such as science and art. Similar to Moss, such network-like connections across different systems enrich us.

Our innovation projects are presented below. The focus is on projects from research, development and art.

Catena-X

SSC has been a member of the Catena-X Automotive Network e.V. association since 2021. In the Europe-wide partner network, well-known DAX companies and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs for short) are collaborating to create the framework for a new data ecosystem in the automotive industry. The aim is to enable secure, cross-company data exchange throughout the automotive value chain.

For SSC as a SME and developer of a data exchange platform, the network is particularly exciting because its vision encompasses many SSC business areas: Our roots lie in the world of data exchange. We have many years of experience in the field of business partner integration between original equipment manufacturers (OEMs for short) and SMEs, with software development, application operation and customer support in IT connectivity going hand in hand. We are therefore particularly pleased that we are helping to shape the future of the automotive industry today.

Catena-X is one of the first collaborative data ecosystems to establish a standardised global data exchange for the automotive industry, enabling a digital flow of information across the entire supply chain.

The association provides the network and the technology to jointly tackle the key challenges facing the automotive industry. The aim is to connect suppliers and users and to ensure the economic efficiency of all network partners. Catena-X sees itself as a rapidly scalable, expandable ecosystem in which all participants in the automotive value chain can contribute equally. In addition to well-known members such as Mercedes-Benz AG, BASF SE and the BMW Group, SMEs in particular are also expected to actively participate.

Since November 2023, we have also been connecting Catena-X lead users, especially from the SME sector, with the emerging data ecosystem of the automotive industry. We guide them through the implementation and testing of the necessary technical components. This allows to gain initial practical experience with the new technologies with our support.

EXCELLERAT

The European Centre of Excellence for Engineering Applications (EXCELLERAT for short) is a European conglomerate of business partners and high-performance computing centres with the aim of increasing Europe’s competitiveness in the high-performance computing (HPC) environment. SSC represents the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs for short) and is committed to building bridges between high-performance computing centres and interested SMEs in order to simplify the use of HPC for industry.

As one of the 15 European partners, we manage and advise on the topic of “Data Management” in the conglomerate.

The use of HPC makes it possible to carry out highly complex simulations and calculations. These form the basis for the development of products and solutions and are essential for the innovation process.

As part of the EU project, SSC is developing a secure data exchange platform to facilitate the utilisation of high-performance computing (HPC) resources and make data transfer more efficient. The so-called Data Exchange & Workflow Portal ensures secure, fast and traceable online data transfer between data producers (SMEs) and HPC centres.

METIS

SSC is a member of the project support committee in the research project “Methodical configuration of information technology to increase the collaboration capability of SMEs in distributed product development” (METIS for short) at TU Berlin. The aim of the project is to develop and utilise a low-threshold method for context-dependent analysis, evaluation and configuration of IT tool stacks for collaborative product creation, taking into account software-as-a-service technologies.

SSC brings 25 years of expertise in collaboration projects and business partner integration to the research project. Thanks to our many years of experience, we are familiar with both the perspective of SMEs and the viewpoint of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs for short) and are therefore able to provide target group-orientated advice.

Today’s SME IT systems are characterised by a wide range of individual solutions that are purchased as standard software. This reliably supports existing working methods but neglects the flexibility and innovation potential of new solutions.

The core element of the METIS research project is firstly to analyse the current situation of IT tool stacks and the determinants that lead to typical project archetypes. The specific influence of these IT tool stacks and possible SaaS technologies on the collaboration capabilities of SMEs will then be analysed.

Finally, a decision-making aid is to be developed that enables companies to configure their IT tool stacks appropriately based on their requirements from the collaboration initiation. This method is intended to provide low-threshold access to the findings in the form of a dashboard as an assistance system.

Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg

SSC is a founding member of the Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg (MSC BW).
The vision of the MSC BW is to create a link between science and art in the digital age. The creative industries’ access to the High Performance Computing Centre Stuttgart (HLRS) is unique.

In line with our motto “Creating Connections”, SSC provides technical advice and is committed to facilitating the connection between research and media from a digital perspective.

„We believe that our IT experience from the automotive industry can also offer great added value in other areas. We would like to support this symbiosis through our membership“

Matthias Stroezel, SSC Managing Director and MSC Board Member

The MSC is part of the EIT culture & creativity, which is an initiative of the European Union. The knowledge and innovation community aims to strengthen and transform Europe’s cultural and creative industries.

In the constantly growing field of media production, the demands on computer performance and computing time for the realisation of sophisticated visual effects and elaborate animations are constantly increasing. The SSC data exchange platform SWAN significantly simplifies access to high-performance computing technology via the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart for animation and visual effects studios. SSC reliably handles the data exchange, while the studios can concentrate on their core business.
