SSC in the European project EXCELLERAT
The European Centre of Excellence for Engineering Applications (EXCELLERAT) is a European conglomerate of business partners and high-performance computing centers with the aim of increasing Europe’s competitiveness in the high-performance computing environment.
Part of the vision is to provide the engineering community with easy access to relevant services and knowledge around high performance computing. Small and medium-sized enterprises should also be given the opportunity to use exascale and high-performance computing.
Data exchange when using HPC
The idea that HPC centers offer data calculation and simulation as a service for the industry is based on the fact that data is exchanged online with the HPC centers – simple, secure, traceable and reproducible.
As an industry partner with many years of experience within the EXCELLERAT project, SSC takes care of data management and data transfer.
“As experts in the field of data exchange, we experience the increase in data volume on a daily basis. We see data transfer as one of the core disciplines for the cooperation and connection of working environments,” says SSC Managing Director Matthias Stroezel.
Given the enormously increased need for data exchange, especially towards exascale computing, it is advisable to find new ways to ensure data availability where it is needed. Bidirectional data exchange between data generators (SMBs) and data processors (HPC centers) must be highly automated to avoid duplication of transmitted content. This approach should lead to a data reduction which ultimately saves time and money.
SSC’s mission is to make data exchange a matter of course and not an obstacle for the parties involved. By using the EXCELLERAT knowledge pool, developers in science and industry can focus on their innovations and avoid overlapping investments.
