Digital Sovereignty: Take control of your data, AI and the cloud.
IT – Digital. Sovereign. Connected.
If you don’t control your data, you lose more than just information: you also lose independence, competitiveness and trust. Digital sovereignty means deciding for yourself which data flows where, which AI processes what, and which infrastructure supports your business.
SSC-Services GmbH supports medium-sized enterprises and automotive suppliers on this journey, providing solutions that are developed, hosted and operated entirely in Germany.
So, what does digital sovereignty mean?
Digital sovereignty describes the ability of companies to independently and legally control their digital infrastructure, data and technologies – free from non-European platforms or political influences.
It comprises three dimensions:
Data Sovereignty
Die volle rechtliche Kontrolle über Ihre Unternehmensdaten – frei von extraterritorialem Zugriff durch den US CLOUD Act oder FISA 702. Ihre Daten bleiben dort, wo Sie es bestimmen.
Operational Sovereignty
The ability to operate IT systems independently, even in the face of vendor lock-ins or geopolitical changes, without being dependent on individual providers.
Technological Sovereignty
Using open standards and transparent architectures to ensure freedom of choice and interoperability, both now and in the future.
Why is digital sovereignty so important today?
Digital sovereignty is no longer a niche topic, but a key competitive factor.
Digital transformation is advancing inexorably, and with it, our dependence on technologies, platforms, and providers based outside Europe is growing. What many companies once regarded as a technical issue is now a strategic one. Who controls your data? Who has access to your AI applications? What would happen if a provider changed its terms and conditions, or if regulatory pressure arose from abroad?

Regulatory pressure is mounting
The NIS2 directive, the Cyber Resilience Act and the EU AI Act are placing new demands on companies. Managing directors are personally liable, and IT security and compliance have become a matter of survival.

Hyperscalers are not a secure option for sensitive data
Even Microsoft has admitted that it cannot guarantee protection against access by US authorities. For companies processing sensitive data, whether it be customer data, intellectual property or personnel files, this is a serious risk that should at least be assessed.

Catena-X is mandatory
Automotive suppliers must prepare for data exchange within the Catena-X ecosystem. Without the right partner, the technical complexity can overwhelm many SMEs.
“Since April 2025, Catena-X registration has been an integral part of the BMW Group’s procurement process.”

AI presents opportunities, but also new risks
Those who use AI without due care are responsible for their data, their employees, and compliance with legal requirements. Providing sensitive company data to public AI systems carries significant risks, ranging from data protection breaches to the loss of confidential information.
